Clayton Middle School has a fun new way to encourage students to read! Using Title I grant funding, the school purchased a book vending machine, giving students the opportunity to earn and select books of their own.

A ribbon-cutting celebration was held today with middle school administrators, guidance counselors, office staff, and students. Winners from the school’s PBSIS (Positive Behavior Support in Schools) program were among the first students to use the machine and choose a new book.

Students can earn special PBSIS coins through positive behavior and accomplishments at school. Those coins can then be used in the vending machine to select a book to keep - combining the excitement of a vending machine with the reward of reading.

The machine is stocked with a variety of popular, student-friendly titles, and selections will be rotated regularly so students have new books to discover throughout the school year.
